Now in the shop: Plastic Beach by Gorillaz, Brand new!
Released in 2010, this is the band’s third studio album and a big creative leap for the virtual group dreamed up by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. Mixing electronic pop, hip-hop, orchestral sounds, and eco-themed storytelling, Plastic Beach is a full concept album set on a floating island made from ocean debris - a sharp, imaginative take on consumer culture and pollution.
The album brings together an incredible list of collaborators, including Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, Mos Def, De La Soul, Little Dragon, and Bobby Womack, whose appearance on “Stylo” became one of the record’s standout moments. Recorded across several countries, the project reflects the band’s global sound and genre-blurring approach.
Known for its rich production and cinematic feel, Plastic Beach is often seen as one of Gorillaz’s most inventive and influential releases, pushing the idea of what a band - and an album - could be in the modern era.
