Now in store: Meat is Murder - The Smiths

Released in 1985, this is the band’s second studio album and the only Smiths record to hit No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart during their lifetime. The copy we have in the shop is a first pressing, making it a particularly special one for collectors. The album builds on the sound of their debut but pushes it further, with Johnny Marr’s layered, inventive guitar work and Morrissey’s sharper, more confident lyrics. Tracks like “The Headmaster Ritual,” “That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore,” and “How Soon Is Now?” helped define the band at their creative peak.

Widely regarded as a key release in 1980s British indie music, Meat Is Murder went on to influence countless alternative and guitar-driven bands, cementing The Smiths as one of the most important UK bands of the decade.
